CNN’S BLACK IN AMERICA SHOWS THAT IT IS TIME FOR BLACKS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITYFOR THEIR OWN FORTUNES

By John Eddie ‘J.J.’ Jones
Special to The Mid-South Tribune ONLINE
And the Black Information Highway
I encourage each African American family to tune into CNN Special BLACK IN AMERICA (airing July 23 and July 24). Further, I engage each African American who wants to take responsibility for his or her own fortune to read and study about the rights we have been granted and accepted and enjoyed the benefits of for a while, but that we as a race has since 1972 stopped fighting in the Federal Courts to receive those economic benefits.
Go figure! Why suddenly has a generation of Blacks stopped using the very laws Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that so many African Americans and fair-minded European Americans marched and fought to have as our Civil Rights Laws in the CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS? See Lyndon Johnson's Fight for Civil Rights http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=3087021. Standing behind the President as he signed the historic bill were: Civil Rights Leaders A. Phillip Randolph, International Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters; Whitney Young, National Urban League; Roy Wilkins, NAACP; and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
Since 1972, the monetary or economic enforcement provision of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ceased to be filed by the NAACP, after having filed over 100 Title VI lawsuits between 1964 and 1972 but not a single one since 1972. The results of our not fighting or forgetting to fight for our economic rights or 'SILVER RIGHTS' is told in the story of being 'Black in America'!

Mr. John Eddie ‘J.J.’ Jones, who is now a noted businessman and economist, was one of the NFL’s earlier African American Quarterbacks; thus, he has the distinction of paving the way for today’s African American NFL quarterbacks. Mr. Jones played quarterback with the New York Jets.
