Editorial: Sen. John McCain Should Be Responsible and Debate

Okay, Sen. John McCain’s excuse for refusing to debate is right up there with ‘my dog ate my homework’.  From today’s events, it seems that Congress is doing what it usually does: Let the public vent and do what it wants to. From all accounts, it seems that African American –owned businesses and other minority businesses will not be getting a piece of the action, and corporate welfare continues.

And the idea of this $700 billion bailout being a crisis of the same calibre as 911 is insulting if not downright ridiculous.  In 911 thousands of lives were lost, and there is no way that is comparable to this solely monetary crisis. It is like comparing death with being broke. The very thought gives us the shivers. We all wish that a $700 billion dollar bailout could bring back lives, but it can’t.

We must say that we are highly disappointed in Sen. John McCain not taking on his responsibility of appearing at the debate at the University of Mississippi (‘Ole Miss’) scheduled for tomorrow night, September 26. It would seem that a former POW and a war hero ought to be brave enough to carry out his responsibility of doing what he agreed to do: Keep his word.
