Shelby County Women & Associates Democratic Club (SCWADC) Asks for Investigation into $29 Billion

HUD Allocation

March 26, 2008 -The Memphis, TN Shelby County Women & Associates Democratic Club (SCWADC) announces a pivotal point for the urgent need to hold a press conference in Memphis, TN, APRIL 4, 2008, 11:00 AM (on the 40th Anniversary Death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) Downtown Memphis, TN in front of the Federal Building; 167 N. Main Street, 38103.

SCWADC seeks to establish a National Voice, with a National Case, through a local city, Resurrection City, where Dr. King died - for the purpose of locating and securing a platform to conduct a congressional investigation into the whereabouts of the $29 Billion Dollars allocated through the 1997 HUD 2020 Reform Plan.

This effort is designed to bring Honor to Dr. King’s name for coming to Memphis in 1968 to attract attention to the needs of the people, which remain unresolved today. Now, we are seeking the help of all community and political leaders across the nation, and, in particular, those of the 9th Congressional District. The Memphis and Shelby County communities are being asked to be the stimulus for conducting a National Investigation into what happened to the $29 Billion Dollars allocated through the HUD 2020 Reform Plan that the Republican controlled U.S. Congress approved in 1997, during the Clinton administration. We want to act on a unique policy position that President Clinton set the stage for, by changing the reactionary policies of the federal government. Clinton and Al Gore created a unique action policy of people empowerment from the “bottom-up” concept, along with an initial $29 Billion dollars to activate the 1997 HUD 2020 Reform Plan initiative!

All National and local TV Networks, Newspapers, and Radio Stations (print & electronic media), are invited to help ensure that we verbalize a National Voice to focus on what happened to the money, nationally. We want to ensure that Memphis gets its portion of those funds to help HUD carry out the mandate of the HUD 2020 Executive Order, and we urge other local, state and national leaders to follow Dr. King and President Clinton’s lead on their ‘bottom-up empowerment of the people’ policy!

A reception, with additional Q & A, will follow the press conference at the Fire Museum of Memphis, 118 Adams @ N. Main Street.
