Oprah’s Lifeclass” taping with Oprah Winfrey and
Chicago, IL – Oprah and Bishop T.D. Jakes come together for a follow up, ‘roof-raising’ conversation in an all-new episode of “Oprah’s Lifeclass” on how to unleash the power of your natural instinct, airing this Sunday, May 11 at 9:00pm ET/PTon OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
Throughout the conversation, Oprah andJakes raise the roof with inspirational messages on how to become the highest vision of yourself and never settle for status quo; plus, the Bishop shows viewers that their natural instincts are really “the treasure map to their souls’ satisfaction.”
EXCERPT: HOW TO TAP IN TO YOUR INSTINCT
OPRAH: All right. So what is your particular process in tapping into your instinct? What is it?
TD JAKES: For me in part it is finding a quiet place. Still waters. Calmness. I have found I don't make good decisions at night. A little rest in the calmness of the morning when my mind is fresh, my instincts are the most keen in the morning. And so sometimes I will write a letter, but I won't mail it's till in the morning.
OPRAH: Me too. Me too.
TD JAKES: Because I need to sleep on it and instinctively sometimes in the morning I'll think, oh, don't say that. Move this over here. You don't even need to do that at all.
TD JAKES: Your instincts are key. Every major move I've ever made in my life was done instinctively.
EXCERPT: NEVER SETTLE FOR STATUS QUO
OPRAH: And you say never settle for status quo.
TD JAKES: Yeah. Never settle for status quo. Get out of the cage. If you can see out the cage and if you can think out of the cage, then get your feet and other parts out of the cage. So that you can be -- amen.
TD JAKES: Amen. So that -- so that you -- while you have the energy to run. While you've got the energy to roar. While you've got the energy to go through a period of adjustment. It's okay not to have everything at first. It's okay, lion, not to know how to hunt at first. Gradually bring about the change so that when you get to the end of your life, you won't die in a cage that you were never meant to be in the first place. (Applause.)
OPRAH: Tweet tweet. Tweet tweet on that.
EXCERPT: WHAT YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT NAYSAYERS
TD JAKES: In the book I talk about giraffes and turtles.
TD JAKES: They occupy the same state -- the same space, but they don't have the same world view.
TD JAKES: The giraffe can be in the same geographical location as the turtle. But the giraffe eats from the tops of the trees and the turtle moves through the grass. And what ultimately happens in the lives of all people is that we eat on the level of our vision. Whoo. (Applause.)
TD JAKES: Okay? We eat on the level of our vision. (Applause.)
OPRAH: We've got to hold that for a moment. Hello. We eat on the level of our vision.
TD JAKES: Of your vision. Yeah. Yeah. When you are a giraffe --
OPRAH: That was good.
TD JAKES: -- and you get criticism from turtles, the turtles are reporting the view from the level they're on.
OPRAH: Oh, that is so good.
TD JAKES: Yeah. It’s a good book.
