MEMPHIS, TN- The University of Memphis Tigers took on the Cincinnati Bearcats on October 30, 2013 in a nationally televised game at Liberty Bowl Stadium. Despite a valiant defensive effort from the Tigers, turnovers and dropped passes led to a 34-21 loss. In their first drive, Cincinnati moved the ball 61 yards but was stopped on 4th down by the Tiger defense. The Tigers later converted a 4th down and three pays later, quarterback Paxton Lynch threw a 7 yard fade to Tevin Jones to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead. Cincinnati answered with a 75 yard drive to tie the score at 7.

Then the mishaps began for the Tigers.  Cincinnati recovered a Marquis Warford fumble at the 19 yard line and scored on the next play. A tough defensive effort from the Tigers followed and the held the Bearcats to a field goal attempt that missed going into halftime.

Cincinnati opened the second half with a 69 yard touchdown drive to bring the score to 21-7. The Tigers responded with a 12 play 70 yard drive ending with a touchdown pass from Lynch to Brandon Hayes, bring the score to 21-14.The Tigers defense got an interception from Bobby McCain, but were not able to produce any points as a result. Cincinnati then picked off Lynch which led to another touchdown making the score 27-14 after a missed extra point.

Cincinnati scored its final touchdown late after Memphis had cut the lead to 7 on a 31 yard touchdown run from Hayes. When asked about the fumbles and dropped passes that cost his team the game, Coach Justin Fuente said "Well you saw, we dealt with it today. Ultimately that's what we have to do. We continue to address it and work on it and we continue to talk about it and drill it and emphasize it." The loss brings the Tigers' record to 1-6, the same record they had last year after 7 games.
