By William Larsha, Jr.,
Sports Reporter and Columnist for The Mid-South Tribune and the Black Information Highway MEMPHIS, TN -September 10, 2011 -- The 2011 edition of the Southern Heritage Classic was played tonight at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. An estimated crowd of over 40,000 was there to witness the game that saw Jackson State prevail over Tennessee State by the score of 35-29. Jackson State's thrilling victory rested largely on the play of quarterback Casey Therriault who threw for three touchdowns and 337 yards. This marks the second win for Jackson State this season against no defeats. Tennessee State fell to 1-1 on the season after only managing to rush for 78 yards against the Jackson State defense. They did make the game exciting by pulling to within two points, 28-26 with 6:17 left in the game. However, Jackson State proved to be too much in the end by sustaining an 82 yard drive that resulted in a touchdown with 2:00 left in the contest. ### |
