And so begins the revealing, thought-provoking documentary “Where Wealth Lives: An Exploration of the African-American Economic Experience.” The documentary, a project sponsored by Wachovia, bravely delves into the subject of wealth creation, demonstrates its importance and highlights the strategies used to buy land, purchase homes, start businesses and participate in philanthropy.
Wachovia took on the project to highlight the accomplishments of African Americans and to draw attention to the historical strategies used to create wealth, many of which still can be applied today. Wachovia released Part 1 of the documentary — which highlights African American economic success from the time of slavery to present day — in 2007. Parts 2 and 3 are new. Part 2 focuses on entrepreneurs and careers, and Part 3 focuses on philanthropy and investing.
The program chronicles the history of African American economic success from the time of slavery to present day. Noted historians Professor John Hope Franklin of Duke University and Dr. Juliet E. K. Walker of The University of Texas, as well as others, contribute commentary. Author, sociologist and former talk show host Dr. Bertice Berry narrates the series.
