MEMPHIS, TN -WKNO is inviting the public to the WKNO Digital Media Center on Saturday, January 5, 2013 to celebrate the premiere of Season Three of the popular, Emmy-Award-winning drama Downton Abbey with a tea party. Tea for Three, a free event open to the public, features refreshments, prizes, and a screening of the first hour of the new season (which premieres Sunday, January 6 at 8:00 p.m. on WKNO/Channel 10). Tickets are free for a 3:00 or 6:00 p.m. event, but limited and can be reserved at wkno.org. Attendants are encouraged to dress in period costume.

Tea for Three is sponsored by St. Mary’s Episcopal School, with refreshments donated by John’s Pantry.

Downton Abbey is one of the most phenomenally popular series in Masterpiece history. In Season Three, the Great War is over and the long-awaited engagement of Lady Mary and Matthew is on, but all is not tranquil at Downton Abbey as wrenching social changes, romantic intrigues, and personal crises grip the majestic English country estate.

Shirley MacLaine joins the much-loved cast, which includes Dame Maggie Smith, Elizabeth McGovern, Hugh Bonneville, Dan Stevens, Michelle Dockery, Jim Carter, Penelope Wilton and many others. “No family is ever what it seems from the outside,” observes Smith’s shrewd character. Downton Abbey Season 3 airs over seven Sundays beginning with a two-hour premiere on January 6 and concluding with a ninety-minute finale on February 17. Each new episode at 8:00 will be preceded by a repeat of the previous week’s episode.

Written and created by Julian Fellowes, Downton Abbey Season 3 is a Carnival Films and Masterpiece coproduction. Seasons 1 & 2 have together won nine Primetime Emmy® Awards and a Golden Globe® for Best Mini-Series.

WKNO is also asking viewers to host their own Downton Abbey viewing party on January 6 and is offering free Downton Abbey bookmarks for those parties (on a first-come, first-served basis). Sign up with Teri Sullivan at 901-729-8735     or wknopi@wkno.org
